Is Your Jaw Beginning to Reabsorb?

Posted on 5/13/2018 by Marilyn Pierce
Reabsorbing Jaw OMA OK 73134Do you know what reabsorption is? It is when your bones begin to disintegrate and literally reabsorb the pieces of bone because your body believes you no longer needs those bones there. When you lose a tooth, after a short time, your jaw begins this process.

The jaw needs regular stimulation to keep strong. If it does not get it, this process begins as a way of self-preservation. If you begin to notice a few common symptoms, you may need to come in and see us. We may have to take steps to restore that missing tooth before parts of your jaw begin to disappear.

Signs Your Jaw is Reabsorbing

If you have one missing tooth, you may be under the impression that it is no big deal. However, it can be. Even that one missing tooth can change the structure of your jaw. When your jaw begins to reabsorb, the teeth around the open socket begin to tilt. Usually they lean in towards one another. This is because the structure is degrading that once held those teeth upright.

You may notice that your jaw gets a little more sore, and you may also notice that some of your teeth feel loose. When you wake up each morning, your teeth may not sit quite right when you bite down at first. These are all signs you need to come in and see us.

Thankfully, if you are going through jaw reabsorption, we can help. There are many options when it comes to keeping your teeth healthy. Plus, we have several restoration options to help your teeth as well. To find out what options you have, call us. We can talk to you about grafts, restoration options, and making sure your jaw stays strong. Find out more today!
